Welcome to Rising Star

Originally posted on September 6, 2011.

This is Rising Star and the beautiful place I will be staying for the next four months of my life.

I live just down a small David Archuletta 'pathway of hope' in the 'Elephant House'. Each day, the kids wake up and start with their anthems in an assembly just behind this building. Here, they all say their prayers.

Here, they call their classes, standards. There are a total of ten standards and I get to teach them all once a week, along with teaching LIFEdance every single day. The students all love to dance and they call me 'dance master'.

This is where I come home to sleep each night. I’m lucky to have a room to myself, and being a little jet-lag, I have been crashing at random times.

Today is the first day in which I’ve eaten all three meals since I got here. It has been quite the transition. But I love the kids. I love teaching the classes. I love telling them to be bigger than they can imagine and to reach as far as the stars. Our goal is “Longer Stronger” and I told the kids to start yelling that when they are ready to give up. I love hearing the random “Longer Stronger!” during the sit-ups. It has already been quite an adventure.

Soon, I will post pictures of the kids and myself. So you guys know that I am still in one piece.
